Subaru Used to Make Airplanes Three Fun Facts About Subaru Cars

Vehicle reviews and ratings

There are quite a few Subaru dealers in the U.S. They are one of America’s most popular imported cars. Subaru has a long and distinguished history for manufacturing not only cars but planes. Did you know that? Many Americans don’t. While that is understandable, potential car buyers should learn a thing or two about Subaru in order to make an informed choice. Here are three fun facts about the car company many people across the country — including employees of Subaru dealers in the U.S. — may not know about but should:

  1. Subaru’s Engines Are Used in Airplanes: Subaru is well-known for using boxer engines in nearly all of its models. A boxer engine has a certain piston mechanism which allows for a low center of gravity, which in turn can improve the car’s balance, stability, and maneuverability. Boxer engines are so useful, in fact, that small, one-engine planes often feature them!
  2. Subaru Wasn’t Always Called Subaru: Subaru’s parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, started out in 1915 and was then called “The Aircraft Research Laboratory.” It was one of the first companies to manufacture airplanes in Japan. They were so prominent that they sold airplanes to the Japanese military during World War II! After the war, they abandoned their airplane manufacturing and instead moved to automobiles, which they’ve been making ever since.
  3. Subaru’s Logo Can Be Found in the Sky: Subaru’s logo is actually based on the star cluster the Pleiades, which have been written about since ancient times. In fact, the word “subaru” itself is the Japanese word for the cluster!

Vehicle reviews and ratings for Subaru models have always been stellar. Subarus are noted for their reliability, smooth capabilities, and affordability. Subaru dealerships across the country offer cars and services that simply cannot be beat. For this and so much more, find Subaru dealers in your locale today.
