Auto transmission services are lucrative enough that each year, the repair industry grosses around $58 million. What your mechanic might now be telling you is that new is not the only way to go.

Used auto transmissions, remanufactured transmissions and performance transmissions are all options. Many mechanics may push for new transmissions to avoid liability issues, but prices can certainly come down if you consider the alternatives. Consider it a “transplant”. There are thousands of used cars to pull parts from, transmissions included.

It is important to find a mechanic who will be honest with you and present options that fit your budget that you are comfortable with.
